Slovenia's Alps are criss-crossed by a number of long-distance cycle routes split into stages.

Circular tour

Comprised of five stages, the 232 km circular tour links Kranjska Gora, Bled, and Bohinj, before heading over the mountains to the Soča Valley, and thence returning to Kranjska Gora via the Vršič Pass.

Loška Tour

The 390 km Loška Tour may be divided into 13 stages which range from easy to very difficult.

The Three Countries Tour

Encompassing Slovenia, Italy and Austria, the Three Countries Tour has an international flavour, and passes into Italy at the Rateče border crossing near Kranjska Gora.

Juriš na Vršič

Starting from Kranjska Gora, Juriš na Vršič  is an annual competitive ascent to the summit  of Vršič, which at 1,611 m is the highest road pass in Slovenia. Indeed, the Upper Sava Valley in the vicinity of Kranjska Gora offers some 150 km of routes of varying degrees of difficulty for the cyclist.

Alpe-Adria Bike Festival

There are two top mountain marathons within the framework of the International Alpe-Adria Bike Festival, one at the direction of VillachKranjska Gora Tarvisio, and the other through the Predil Pass to Bovec, along the Soča Valley through the Vršič Pass to Kranjska Gora and back to Villach.

After rotating your pedals through the beautiful panorama of Austria, Slovenia and Italy, an extensive accompanying programme with various entertainment and concerts follows.

Rush to the Dovška Baba Mountain

Runners and cyclists can take part in the 5.9-kilometre competition with the height difference of 400m from the centre of the village of Dovje towards Dovška baba Mountain to Cicov rovt in Ravne. The gravel road leads you through the forests and meadows, and the wonderful views of the Julian Alps give you the energy for the ascend.

Besides a variety of trails, Kranjska Gora and Krvavec also offer tourists Fun Bike Parks – bike parks that allow bikers to taste the joys of freeride biking and adrenaline tabletop jumps, ski jumps, swings and other obstacles.

Family cycling day

...take part in a guided cycling trip in Kranjska Gora, which the Kranjska Gora Tourist Association organises every year for the whole family.

If you are a family with small children, choose an easier tour: Kranjska Gora – Rateče – Kranjska Gora. Cyclicts with better stamina can choose a more demanding cycling route: Kranjska Gora – Fusine Lakes – Kranjska Gora.

CYCLE ROUTES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CERKLJE NA GORENJSKEM

Active experience of nature and the countryside among the multi-coloured fields and undulating hills of the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem. Take your pick from 8 marked cycle tracks suitable for road and mountain bikes. The cycle route map is on display in the centre of Cerklje in front of Petrovec House; all routes are clearly marked for the convenience of the biker. The tracks take you past several cultural, historical and natural attractions that heighten the experience of every biking trip.

The cycling routes around Storžič

The cycling routes around Storžič are intended for purely recreational cycling, where we make time for seeing the wonderful local sights, meadows, fields and, of course the mountains which dominate the northern vista. The routes are varied. They follow less busy roads through villages, where you can hop off and enjoy the culinary delights and tourist attractions of the Gorenjska rural areas.

The tracks are between 20 and 30 km long and marked with signs, each having a track number and direction of travel. The tracks are suitable for trekking and mountain bikes.

 

Accommodation and equipment for cyclists

Hotels and other accommodation providers suitable for cyclists - which also offer rentals - are to be found in Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Jezersko and Bled (where there is also a bike camp). As with accommodation for hikers and walkers, these providers are also afforded a special categorisation. Such stopovers are also able to provide you with information, maps and suggestions for tours, they can supply food to order, organise transfers, as well as offer cycle maintenance, repair and storage facilities, together with the opportunity for relaxation and activities.
