TRADICIONALNE PRIREDBE

The magnificent Škofja Loka Passion Play, a major cultural attraction in Slovenia's Alpine region, is due to be performed again in 2015. This procession and open-air performance is based on the oldest dramatic text in the Slovene language, and over one thousand participants are anticipated in the streets of Škofja Loka.

Other popular traditional events include Shoe-making Sunday in Tržič (September), Lace-making Days in Železniki (July), Potato Day in Šenčur (June), Avsenik Festival in Begunje (September), as well as Kekec Days for children in Kranjska Gora.

The Gorenjska region also boasts a number of international festivals, including the Bled Festival of classical music, Okarina Bled Festival of ethno music, and the Festival of Early Music in Radovljica. In spring, there is the Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj as well as numerous events in Kranj – such as the Carniola Festival, Jazz Kamp and Kranfest including the Kranj Night. Considered one of the largest events of its kind in Europe, the International Days of Minerals, Fossils and Environment – MinFos – is organised each May in Tržič.

Shepherd’s Ball

The customs and traditions of herdsmen and a pastoral lifestyle are revived by the Shepherd’s Ball held each August at Jezersko, as well as the Cow’s Ball at Ribčev Laz in Bohinj (September), events which, in addition to being entertaining, are also ethnographically informative.
